Lawrence “Larry” Ray

The Chicagoan
This New Yorker cover (the original one, of course) was published during Lawrence’s senior year of high school.

For L.Ray’s map, 80% would be Chicago’s near north side.

In our family and at school, he was first called Lawrence. When he went off to summer camp, he became Larry. He didn’t ask his Parker friends or family to call him that, but by age 12, his required summer camp letters were signed “L.Ray.” Back at Parker, that signature became a name.

Whether we knew him as Lawrence, Larry, L.Ray, El Ray or just L, we celebrate him and the bond we share through him.

We invite you to browse this site. Check out the slideshows, videos and add your memories to the Guestbook. And don’t miss Paul Druzinsky’s “Fugue for El Ray.” It’s right on the money.
